Summer Time

As we approach the summer months, many will begin their family vacation. The time of relaxation is typically something that most look forward to each year. However, before the trip is a success, a ton of preparation is put into place such as: packing, planning, reservations and making sure all details are in alignment so the travelers can get to their stopping place and enjoy their retreat away. Whether the vacationers drive themselves, fly or take a cruise ship to their final destination; it’s their choice on how they get there. But one thing is for sure, a good travel plan must be executed before they can arrive. Sometimes, they need additional tools to help navigate the trip. For instance, if driving by car, some may use a GPS to keep them on course. If flying, a navigation system and a pilot are used to secure the landing. If taking a cruise ship, a captain along with a knowledgeable staff and a special software package is utilized to maneuver the ship properly. With this said, whatever transportation that is chosen, it takes time to plan the best route to have a successful trip. Likewise, let’s not forget that there must also be a trusted, loyal navigator who has the wisdom to lead, guide and direct the journey.

Similarly, like the scenario mentioned above, we have choices when we are trying to prepare for our final destination. We can either make reservations for a trip that will lead us to a peaceful resting place that offers life everlasting or we can pay for a trip that offers eternal punishment? Our choice to make a decision is based upon how we want to spend our future. So when you think about what this may look like for you, please ask yourself the following questions: Am I confident that I have taken all measure to reserve my seat when traveling to my final destination? What benefits will my trip offer if I choose one over the other? Will I feel alive when I reach my permanent address? Will I be surrounded by loved ones that can help me continue living an abundant life? All of these are good to review before securing your trip.

Don’t let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God, and trust also in me. There is more than enough room in my Father’s home. If this were not so, would I have told you that I am going to prepare a place for you? When everything is ready, I will come and get you, so that you will always be with me where I am.  And you know the way to where I am going.” John 14:1-4

Reflection Questions

What place will you choose as your final destination?

Who will you allow to navigate your trip?

Are you ready and completely packed?

Bonus: Great song (if you are interested) when you think about your final destination, do you ever ask “Where do I belong”- your final trip allows you to chose, where will you take up your permanent residence? What location will you call home?
