Foundation

In my newsletter today I am going to ask a simple question – what type of foundation have you built your house upon? As some of you are aware, we are in the process of selling our home. As a matter of fact we have a home inspection coming up soon and the inspector will come through making sure the next homeowners has a safe and sturdy home to live in with no underlying issues. Through the process of actually watching him inspect previously, I am grateful that my house has a solid foundation.

However, this is not always the case for every home. Some actually have cracks and structural damage, which is scary and dangerous. You know why this happens? Because there is a lack of care and maintenance and it is evident that the home has been neglected. As a result, the foundation can reveal that the house is slowly decaying and may no longer being able to uphold the structure. Much the same, when we look at our lives, the same picture of deterioration can also display similar characteristics if we do not take the necessary steps to maintain our house (us) and build upon a solid foundation –a relationship with Jesus. How do we do this? We seek him out, pray and rely on him instead of ourselves. I know this is not always easy, but putting our faith in someone who is all powerful and all knowing takes

away doubt and allows him to work in us and through us. So please search your heart as you read the newsletter and ask yourselves this question-do I have a firm foundation that will sustain me, and would I say that I am building my house on rock or sinking sand?

“Anyone who listens to my teaching and follows it is wise, like a person who builds a house on solid rock.    Though the rain comes in torrents and the floodwaters rise and the winds beat against that house, it won’t collapse because it is built on bedrock.    But anyone who hears my teaching and doesn’t obey it is foolish, like a person who builds a house on sand.    When the rains and floods come and the winds beat against that house, it will collapse with a mighty crash.”

Matthew 7:24-27

Reflection Questions

1. Is your foundation built on- solid rock or sinking sand?

2. What areas do you need to let go of in order to be sustained so He can build you from the ground up?

3. When you think about your life, would you say that you are decaying slowly or you have a solid structure?

Bonus: Great song (if you are interested), Will you let him build you brick by brick? “Up on this Rock”.
