Battle Belongs
In my newsletter this week, I would like to ask you if you are fighting a battle that you’re not sure how to win? Many people face obstacles at some point in their lives. Some handle these stumbling blocks better than others. Many times, I see people go through trials with grace and other times others these battles create worry that takes over and consumes. For this reason, some people get upset and before you know it, they become stressed out. So how do you avoid this? Well, ask yourself who you are turning to in the crisis. Instead of turning to the person who can help us, oftentimes we try to solve the problem on our own. When this happens, the issues aren’t generally resolved. With this said, do you think we were prepared properly to fight with the right tools? So, how can we make sure we are ready? According to Shortform.com, those who want to conquer battles should remember this: “A victorious leader wins first and battles second. This is why the greatest victory is that which requires no battle. Therefore, a good leader takes advantage of opportunity, wherein they succeed when winning is easy. An easy victory means understanding the nuances of your opponent in order to preemptively strike.” Shortform goes on to suggest key components to help that includes: first, stand on advantageous ground by taking into consideration all circumstances that create vulnerability in your opponent. Second, create a strategy that is so inscrutable and adaptable that defeating you becomes close to impossible. Last, have a contingency for everything, making sure you are always prepared and know your opponent so well as to be able to recognize even the slightest weakness and exploit it.
When we think about the way the Adversary attacks people, do you think these suggestions can also be used to fight him so we can win the battle? I believe so but we must also think in biblical terms. These key components along with Scripture - specifically the words in Ephesians 6, will set the warrior up for battle so they will not be defeated. What does Ephesians 6 say? The book states that believers must put on the Armor of God. The Scripture expands on the different pieces of clothing that is recommended to be successful in the battle. The verses tell what each part of the equipment offers. For example, when looking at the belt of truth and the body armor, we will see this piece provides God’s righteousness. Next, by putting on the shoes of peace that comes from the Good News we will have a firm foundation when we stand. By holding up the shield of faith we will be able to stop the fiery arrows that are being shot at us. When we put on the helmet of salvation we are protected by sinful thoughts and stay focused on the truth. Finally, we have the Sword of the Spirit (The Word of God) which serves as an offensive weapon. Now that you know all of the components to defeat the evil on, are you prepared and willing to take these steps to win the victory?
When you go out to fight your enemies and you face horses and chariots and an army greater than your own, do not be afraid. The Lord your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, is with you! When you prepare for battle, the priest must come forward to speak to the troops. He will say to them, ‘Listen to me, all you men of Israel! Do not be afraid as you go out to fight your enemies today! Do not lose heart or panic or tremble before them. For the Lord your God is going with you! He will fight for you against your enemies, and he will give you victory!’
Deuteronomy 20:1-4
