Community
In my newsletter this week, I would like to talk about the importance of community. Google states that the word is as follows: “a feeling of fellowship with others, as a result of sharing common attitudes, interests, and goals.” According to Wellbeing People, “belonging to a community has several benefits, such as support or exposure to positive influences. Feeling as though you can count on others for support can take a lot of stress off of a person. Having someone to vent to or a shoulder to cry on can influence us to better ourselves and support others as well. When you’re surrounded by support, you’re less likely to relapse into old habits that you’re trying to get away from. People can hold you accountable and you can do the same for them.”
As we can see, by having a community, the idea helps others thrive and impacts the overall well-being of people’s lives. Much the same, a biblical community has many variables that are similar. However, there is one major difference-this community is Christ centered. When looking at a faith-based community, outsiders can easily recognize that there is something very different from an ordinary community. What is the difference? There is not only a desire to serve and play a part of a common goal, but there is a desire to learn the teachings of Jesus and to learn about His Holy Word. This particular community also offers instant friendships while receiving encouragement but it also adds a spiritual component to the experience. Therefore, not only is a biblical based community educational, it also provides opportunities for believers to experience worship as well as feel the love of each follower and of course the love of Jesus. This type of bond helps build a community that will forever impact many lives eternally for generations to come. In fact, Ramseysolutions.com states: “Jesus knew if people grew in their relationship with others, they would grow in their relationship with Him.” The model of community was important to Jesus and is exactly why he mentioned it numerous times in the Bible. With this said, is it important to you as well? Do you long to find community that will meet your needs? Will you step out in faith and allow others to teach, love and fellowship with you today? Are you open to a biblical community who can make a difference in your life-The choice is yours!
Let us hold tightly without wavering to the hope we affirm, for God can be trusted to keep his promise. Let us think of ways to motivate one another to acts of love and good works. And let us not neglect our meeting together, as some people do, but encourage one another, especially now that the day of his return is drawing near.
