Secret Sin

Today in my newsletter, I am going to talk about secret sin. Most everyone has had a specific time in their lives when they have made unwise choices that led them to sin. Some of these sins may have been bad enough that rather than confess them and admit the mistake, they have been disregarded and filed away subconsciously because of the pain and guilt that they have caused. Likewise, these sins can also cause us to be ashamed to the point of thinking we can never be forgiven for what we have done in the past. For this reason is why they are secretly kept hidden so the sinner does not have to relive these experiences. But my friend, I would like to affirm that this way of thinking is just not true! What we do know is the adversary is using the sin against those who may fit in this category. The adversary’s motive is also to inflict doubt and use our sins to his advantage. But let me reassure you that according to scripture (1 John 1:9), there is nothing so bad that God cannot wipe away and forgive. But how do we get there? Well it’s simple-all that is needed is a willingness to surrender and confess these sins to him. In fact, this is why he provided a way through the sacrifice of his son on the cross. Jesus’ death shows an unconditional love for us and also trumps all types of sin. But it is up to us to take the steps to escape this bondage and realize that we are perfectly loved and that he has the power to forgive. So will you release the chains and find freedom today?

You spread out our sins before you—our secret sins—and you see them all.
Psalms 90:8

But God showed his great love for us by sending Christ to die for us while we were still sinners.
Romans 5:8

Reflection Questions

1. What secret sins are you hiding that prohibit you to confess before the Lord?

2. When will you put away your pride and surrender as well as, ask for forgiveness?

3. Who is the one person that can provide freedom and still say you are perfectly loved?

Bonus: Great song (if you are interested), No matter what sin you committed; you are “Perfectly loved”.
