How Well Do We Love Others?
In my article, I would like to talk about how well we love others. Last week, I unfortunately witnessed some behavior that really did not convey love or grace. It literally broke my heart to see the effects that one person’s actions had on another person just because they were a bit different. To see the effects was horrible, but to see the response was priceless! See, the wounded person did not react negatively, but instead continued to show love even when the unkind treatment was unwarranted. Though the victim was hurt, the person turned the other cheek and extended love and grace to the wrongdoer because it was unknown if the offender was struggling personally. In fact, the victim went a step further and served the person even though the behavior caused much pain. The visual picture of forgiveness was evident and spoke volumes to those who got to witness the poor conduct. As I think back about the way Jesus was treated it is much the same. He continued to be ridiculed and persecuted for living out his calling. No matter what obstacle he faced, he always showed love and grace-this demonstrates true strength! Have you ever been in this type of situation where you knew that reacting negatively was not the right thing to do, so you showed grace to those who were unkind? Likewise, have you experienced a similar situation where the roles were reversed and you were the offender? For me, I know in the past, I did not always respond like Jesus. But throughout the years, I adjusted my behavior and intentionally chose to make a conscious effort when responding because I want to be more Christ-like. In conclusion, showing love and grace is not always the easiest choice, but it is what is expected. The next time you encounter an adverse situation; will you adjust your behavior and also show love and grace?
Jesus replied, “‘You must love the LORD your God with all your heart, all your soul, and all your mind.’ This is the first and greatest commandment. A second is equally important: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.
